Inventive Engineering and Personalized Training Available
"The world is undergoing rapid and fundamental changes─and true leaders must recognize this fact. Leaders need to learn not only how to adapt to these changes but also how to stimulate their evolution and lead others through them. Unfortunately, traditional practical and analytical engineering knowledge and skills are grossly insufficient to support true leadership in this changing and ever more challenging global environment. The new science of Inventive Engineering, however, provides an opportunity to grow true leaders by providing professionals with a body of knowledge and the related skills needed to encourage them to become highly competitive through their ability to create novel solutions.
Inventive Engineering is an emerging engineering science with roots in several other sciences as well. Its focus is on problem-solving that results in novel solutions, i.e. solutions that are unknown at the time yet feasible, surprising, and potentially patentable. In engineering terms, such solutions are called “inventions.” Application of Inventive Engineering is not limited to this discipline alone. On the contrary, it may include all situations and professions that demand the creation of novel solutions.
Inventive Engineering has three major interrelated components: Background Knowledge, Fundamentals and Inventive Methods. The first area of Background Knowledge includes integrated (i.e. Transdisciplinary) knowledge with roots in engineering, psychology, political science and history. This knowledge is necessary in order to understand human creativity. It is also vital in order for professionals to be prepared for learning inventive methods and acquiring specific creative skills. The lectures will address a unique combination of topics, including such interrelated topics as knowledge integration and transdisciplinarity, Successful and Appreciative Intelligence, psychological fixation, creative class and creative environment, The Medici Effect, The Renaissance Man, Da Vinci Principles and their modern interpretation, Mind Mapping and engineering creativity and inventions.
The second area, Fundamentals, provides an understanding of the basic concepts associated with creative problem-solving, particularly in design. It also introduces methodological design knowledge associated with the design process and its conceptual and detailed designing stages. Also within this component, designing of engineering systems is compared with system architecting (which is the focus of systems engineering).
The third and final component of Inventive Engineering deals with the individual inventive methods and skills necessary to actively use the concepts presented in Background Knowledge and Fundamentals. The methods discussed within this component include Morphological Analysis, Brainstorming, Synectics, TRIZ and the Edisonian Method. Also included is Bio-Inspiration in Design, including the areas of conceptual and computational inspiration.
The ultimate objective of the various courses offered by Dr. Arciszewski is to help participants to improve their competitive advantage. Participants will undergo a transformation from “traditional, deductive thinker” to “creative engineer and leader” prepared to meet the demands of the changing world. Within the Theory of Successful Intelligence, this transformation can also be interpreted as a transformation from an engineer with only practical and analytical intelligence to a professional leader who possesses Successful Intelligence, including creative intelligence.
Depending on the needs of the audience, courses from three to 15 days (An equivalent of an academic one-semester course) can be offered and will be customized to meet the expectations of a given group of individuals. These courses will constitute a continuation of more than 15 years of Dr. Arciszewski’s teaching of Inventive Engineering at George Mason University, both on the graduate and undergraduate levels. The courses will be based on results of more than 40 years of his research on engineering creativity, particularly in design, which has also produced patents in three countries. Depending on need and logistics, the courses may include lectures, discussions and individual projects. Dr. Arciszewski’s new book on “Inventive Engineering, Knowledge and Skills for Creative Engineers” (Taylor and Francis, 2016) will be used as a textbook.
If you are interested in participating in such a course, please reach out for additional information.
The future holds infinite options. Working one-on-one is a rare opportunity in the modern world. Could you be a match for such an experience?"
